(i) Peer Influence: Peer pressure has been identified as one of the reasons why students joint cults. Once a students is initiated it is incumbent on him to persuade his friends to see reasons why being a campus big boy is tied to being a cult member.

(ii) For Revenge: Revenge against others is another major reason why students join cults. In a bid to get back at those who had wronged or injured them, they join cults and hide behind its shadows to perpetuate their dastardly acts.

(iii) For Protection: This is actually the major reason why students join a cult, especially in schools. When they get molested every day by other cult groups, they resolve into joining them.

(iv) Ignorance: A lot of students have joined secret cults in pure ignorance. They were lured to the meeting by an old member under the guise of escorting them to somewhere. And once initiated, denouncing your membership is never an easy option.

[Explanation]

(i) Making of Laws: The major duty of the legislature is to make laws. This laws originate as bills either in the legislature or from the executive. As bills, they are debated and thoroughly considered.

(ii) Approval of Executive and Judicial offices: In most countries of the world, for instance, the U.S.A. The legislature has to approve the appointment of some executive and judicial officials before such officials can assume office.

(iii) Constitutional Amendments: Another function of the legislature is to participate in the amendment of the country's constitution. Depending on the country concerned, the legislature may be required to make amendments in the constitution by at least two-thirds majority.

(iv) Organizing and Publicizing of Public Views: The legislature is a good forum that makes the government aware of public opinion and grievances. Made up of representatives of the people, these legislators sample public opinion and in their debates alert the executive branch on the usefulness or otherwise of such opinion or grievances.

(v) Financial Control of the Executive: The Legislature in both Nigeria and U.S.A. has the constitutional power to control the expenditure of the government. For example, the legislature is required to review the President annual budget before it goes into force.

It is a type of democracy where people choose their representatives through and election to govern on their behalf. It is a form of government which ensures that elected individuals are representing the people.
